As a woman of color, I searched high and low for black breast pads to wear under my white or light-colored nursing camisoles, so they wouldn’t show through. These Charlie Banana Nursing Pads do the job quite well. The interior layer is made of absorbent, breathable, buttery-soft cotton, so they don’t chafe against sore nipples (the bane of every nursing mom’s existence!). This interior layer is also white (but chlorine-free), so there’s no need to worry about any harsh dyes against your sensitive skin. The exterior layer of the nursing pads is made of some sort of black, moisture-resistant material. I’m not sure of the exact type of material, but what I do know is that these pads are virtually leak-proof, even overnight. I have yet to find a breast pad that doesn’t show through a single layer of clothing (such as a nursing camisole or bra), but these come pretty close. The outline of the pads is just barely visible under my thinner camisoles, and virtually invisible under double-layered or thicker camisoles. And the color doesn’t show through at all against my dark-brown skin. The only reason I didn’t give this item 5-stars is that the front of each breast pad has a rather annoying, turquoise “Charlie Banana” label sewn onto it. Needless to say, these labels show through EVERYTHING like a bright, neon light. So I ended up having to remove them by manually picking out the stitching. The labels were a major downside for me, since I wanted to wear these nursing pads directly under camisoles, but if you’re planning on wearing multiple layers over your nursing camisole or bra, then the labels shouldn’t be too much of a bother for you. If you’re looking for comfortable, dark-colored nursing pads, these are a solid choice. |

I really got my money’s worth with these reusable pads. I liked them so much, I bought 2 packages. Since they are reusable, obviously they are not as absorbant as disposable pads with the gel absorbency. But, for me, they work quite well for my needs. During the day, they work well, I never had any leakage issues. However, night is another story- since baby sleeps pretty well through the night, the pads have to work double duty and I do find my self saturated occasionally when I wake up. Not sure if there are any reusable pads out there that would alleviate this problem. I do have one complaint- one of the pads seemed to be growing mold in it. I noticed a small black dot in the pad that regardless of washing and drying it, it seemed to grow and multiple. I threw it out to be on the safe side, hasn’t happened to any of the other pads.

I really love these nursing pads. They are EXTREMELY soft and are slightly larger in diameter than the disposable pads I had been using. I don’t have much trouble with leakage but I pretty much wear pads every day for those unexpected moments when I do leak a lot. These have done well for me. I really like the fact that the backing is the same material the company uses for their cloth diapers – that was the selling point when I ordered these the first time (I’m about to order a second set because 3 pairs just aren’t enough and I get disappointed every time they are all dirty and I have to use disposables!)There are only two downsides I can point out. Sometimes they move out of place when I wear them overnight – I’ve had a couple of mornings where I woke up wet. However, I attribute that more to the fact that they are not sticky disposables, I have very large breasts, and I sleep on my stomach. The second downside is that they do show through clothing a little – especially if they get bunched up a little somewhere around the edge. But I have yet to find a nursing pad that doesn’t do this, so I can’t really take a star away from them for that either.
Like a previous poster, I was also a little baffled by the turquoise tags, but I always have a bra and rarely wear light colored clothing so this hasn’t been a problem for me.
*Update* I just realized that these are the black ones and I meant to post for the white ones, which unfortunately I cannot seem to find now!
