5.0 out of 5 stars Happier with Lunette than Diva Cup, February 10, 2011

I pre-ordered the Lunette last year when they were still waiting on their FDA approval. I’ve had it for about a year and am very glad that I got it.
Prior to owning the Lunette I used a size 1 (pre-childbirth) Diva Cup for 3 years and liked it because it got the job done and I didn’t realize there were other options. I was able to find the Diva Cup in my local health food store, and at didn’t think to research different brands until I became pregnant.
After the (vaginal)birth of my baby, I needed a new menstrual cup and found a very useful channel on YouTube called MenstrualCupInfo. The woman who created the channel, Melissa, does a wonderful job of comparing all of the cup options that we have here in the US and Europe. She even has a few cups from farther reaches of the globe, but for practical purposes, I focused on the brands I could feasibly purchase. I know that another reviewer mentioned this channel too – please check it out for yourself – it really is very helpful.
Utilizing her comparisons I chose the large Lunette Cup, and have been very happy.
Based on my experience with both the Diva and Lunette here are the reasons I like the Lunette better:
– The Lunette has a solid stem to pull the cup out, while the Diva’s is a hollow tube. The Diva’s was a pain to clean out every month.
– The Lunette has larger suction holes at the rim. Also easier to keep clean. I always had to clean out the Diva’s suction holes with a sewing needle because they were so tiny.
– The Diva cup has a really pronounced rim where the top measuring line is. This was also hard to clean and would easily collect ‘build-up’ under that ledge. The Lunette is much more streamlined and doesn’t have any dramatic ledges or crevices.
– The Lunette’s silicone is firmer, so it’s easier to get it to open once it’s inserted. I also get fewer leaks with the firmer cup.
So basically, the Lunette is easier to keep clean and insert, in my opinion.
The Lunette is also shorter and wider than the Diva Cup. I feel like the Diva cup was harder to get inserted properly when I first started using menstrual cups because it’s longer. I was constantly readjusting the fit so that I could get it into a comfortable position where I wouldn’t feel it. I still have the Diva as a backup, though. It’s not a ‘bad’ cup, but it’s more of a 3 star cup for me. .
Though I love my Lunette, I realize that it won’t be a good fit for everyone. Please do some research so that you’re more likely to find a style that will work with your body!

5.0 out of 5 stars Why am I just learning about this?!, June 14, 2010

This review is from: Lunette Menstrual Cup – Model 2 (Health and Beauty)
I first saw a “menstrual cup” when on a business trip in a small granola-type shop and was surprised to learn how few women use them. After much research (youtube has a gal with videos showing how to use the item and the differences between brands and sizes) I decided on the Lunette model 2. Those of you new to this item may be interested in the decisions behind my choice so I will briefly list them below.
1. If the medical silicon used to make the cup is very soft, the cup could have trouble ‘popping open’ after being inserted. Knowing that any slips or difficulties using this product could damage my excitement for it, I didn’t want to take any chances! The Lunette brand is made with a firmer silicon. Don’t worry, you won’t be bothered by it when wearing it. 2. The Finnish make this brand and historically and traditionally these people seem to really understand design and seem to think progressively about female needs. 3. This cup can be worn for up to 12 hours because it is composed of medical grade silicon. Since the average workday is usually shorter, this time span allows the wearer to change their cup in the comfort of their own home depending on the amount of flow. 4. The company states that this product can last 10 YEARS with proper care! Why aren’t there more products with this kind of longevity? (like cell phones…). If this holds true, think of all the savings. 5. TSS is not a possibility when using this product!!! Speaks for itself. 6. You can sleep with it inserted. No more stained sheets and beds!
Okay, now before you get carried away, there is a learning curve with the cup and you will have to retrain yourself how to use it as mindlessly and regularly as tampons and pads, especially in public restrooms (on video). I recommend trying it before your period starts (totally possible and safe). Again, reference the video and watch the woman demonstrate with the clear glass tube. It sits lower than tampons and you may need to cut the bottom tip off for comfort (also explained by the youtube woman). You’ll be surprised how comfortable it is. Getting the thing out takes getting used to as well as you have to squeeze it to break the vacuum seal it creates when inserted into the body. If you can adjust to these minor things, you will love this item. I wish I had heard about it when I started my period! If I had I probably wouldn’t have hated the whole ordeal as much.

5.0 out of 5 stars This brand was the best fit for me., February 1, 2012

I have sat on my hands for years in regards purchasing and using a menstrual cups. I first started using Instead softcups disposable inserts but it wasn’t a good product for me because (warning TMI) every time I have a bowel movement or a big surge of cramp overcomes me, it shifts the Instead softcups to shift and I will leak big time. So I graduated to Mooncups UK (which I obtained through clandestine means). It was better and provided a great seal but at times, the seal will be too tight and I would struggle to remove it and for me the Mooncup UK was a bit thick when trying to fold it and insert it (I tend to tense up). I tried a variety of cups until I found a Lunette cup on sale at a e-tailer.
What I like about the Lunette is that it was flexible for me to fold and insert. It provided a solid seal but it was easy for me to remove to dispose of the contents. That means I could dispose of the contents in a public bathroom without leave the bathroom stall looking like a crime scene. I also liked the fact that is based on the seal, I rarely leak, even if I flex my Kegel muscles, or have a great big sneeze. I order a large because I tend to experience a heavy menstrual cycle in the first two days. What I noticed for me is that ever since of using a menstrual cup, my periods are shorter (last about 4 to 5 days instead of 7 to 8 days), my menstrual cramps are less painful, and I can work out while using the menstrual cup, unlike a tampon which shifts every time I engage my core. Granted this menstrual cup brand may not work for every one but I encourage every woman to at least look into the various brands such as MeLuna, Yuuki, Mooncup UK, etc. I plan to purchase another one because previous one was inadvertently thrown out *grrrrr*.
